Sydney-born professional services firm Think & Grow was global from day one. Founded in 2015 with the goal of accelerating the growth of technology companies, the founders identified an opportunity to create a business that mirrored the venture partner model they had observed emerging in the United States. 

From the very beginning, they had the ambition to establish a global presence, but they needed to find the right financial partner to help them seamlessly operate between borders. We sat down with Co-Founder Anthony Sochan to explore why Airwallex was the perfect fit. 

The Challenge

Growing fast, banking slow

Think & Grow has offices in six locations across the world, and customers in over 30 global locations. With such a wide scope of global activity, traditional bank accounts weren’t keeping up with their speed of acceleration. 

“We didn't actually have the ability to easily transfer money from one international bank account to another,” says Anthony. 

These inefficiencies were causing pains for the team and their accounting partners, who were losing days in admin time each month. 

Clunky card complexities

Another problem Anthony’s team was facing was managing their global expenses efficiently.

“Before Airwallex cards came along, we were all using our personal credit cards,” says Anthony. 

In an industry where frequent travelling and client meetings are the norm, expenses would build up. As well as having to manually organise receipts, they would have to go through their statements to figure out where expenses needed to be categorised.

"It was less than ideal because at the end of the week or month, we each had to go through the list of transactions, figure out what was a personal expense, and what was a business expense.”

While employee expenses could be managed on personal cards, Anthony knew then were no substitute for an advanced business-first solution.

Cards can be issued to team members in 40+ countries, so Anthony’s six office locations are easily covered. Admins can choose between physical or virtual cards, with the latter appearing in employee accounts almost instantly, ready to use!
